Frequently asked questions

Everything schools and clinicians ask about Self & Match and self-monitoring.

What is Self & Match?
Self & Match is a research-based self-monitoring and self-management system for schools. A learner rates their own behavior during set check-in times, a staff member independently "matches," and the two are compared — building self-awareness, honesty, and independence while giving educators clean behavior data.
What is self-monitoring, and how does Self & Match work?
Self-monitoring teaches a person to observe and record their own behavior. In Self & Match, the learner answers a few clear, positively-framed questions about how they did; an accountability partner (the "matcher") answers the same questions; and matching responses are reinforced with points and rewards. It runs on any device or on paper.
Is Self & Match evidence-based?
Yes. Self & Match is grounded in the research on self-monitoring and self-management, was developed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts, and is used in school districts across the country as well as by community organizations.
What ages and settings is it for?
It is flexible enough for learners of all ages and is used across Tier 1, 2, and 3 behavioral supports in schools, clinics, and homes.
Does it work without devices, on paper?
Yes. The Self & Match Maker lets you build and print check-in forms as clean PDFs, so you can run the whole system on paper — with no student accounts required.
Is student data private and secure?
Protecting student data is a priority. The platform is built following HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITRUST/ISO 27001 practices. Website analytics only run with your consent and are never applied to student data inside the app.
How much does Self & Match cost?
Pricing is a simple per-student annual license with automatic volume discounts — starting at $24 per student per year and decreasing as you add students. During our beta you can get started free. See the pricing page for current tiers.
Do learners need their own accounts or devices?
In the digital app, each learner has a simple login they can use on a shared or personal device. If you prefer paper, the Maker's printable forms need no accounts at all.
Who created Self & Match?
Self & Match was created by Jamie Salter (Ed.S, BCBA) and Katie Croce (Ed.D, BCBA-D), Co-Founders and Co-Presidents. The app is built by Data Makes the Difference — the team behind the VB-MAPP App, EFL App, and BCBA Now.
How do I get started?
Create a free account to try the digital app, or get the Self & Match System Manual for the full guide to setting up the system. Already have a manual code? Use it to unlock the printable Maker.
